Toyo / Motorworks GTI Cup
The Toyo / Motorworks GTI Cup was the first ever one-make motor racing championship in the United Arab Emirates. The championship lasted for around two seasons from 2006/7 through to 2007/8 with a consistent grid of 10 plus cars. The championship organised by Motorworks Racing was designed for the inexperienced and experienced club driver who want to compete with an equal competition package, on a professional level but at a low cost.
Based at the time on the new VW Golf GTI. The car produced around 200bhp from a factory sealed standard 2.0 litre turbo engine with the only modifications allowed being the cars set-up. Further development over the series finally pushed the cars to over 260bhp but they still remained a low cost entrance into the world of motorsport.
